More on anthrax antitoxins
Nature has taken the step of publishing two articles on the internet on ways of neutralizing anthrax toxin.
As I understand it, the toxin, generated by the bacteria, is the lethal part of an anthrax infection. Antibiotics are only effective if they kill the bacteria before lethal levels of the toxin are produced, which is why early idenfication of pulmonary anthrax is so essential. If an effective way of neutralizing the toxin can be found, the "cure window" for anthrax opens up considerably, making a cure possible for pulmonary victims who already have extensive infection.
