A basic contradiction, or flaw, in Libertarianism

Libertarianism has such great intellectual appeal. Who could be against the expansion of individual freedoms in all social, political, and economic domains? The problem is that Libertarians go too far in glorifying the individual, and denying the concept of group identity. (they also overemphasize economics too some degree but that is another issue).

Of course it's desirable to maximize individual liberties. I don't want anyone in government telling me what I can't freely buy, sell, or earn, what I can't read, speak, view, or publish, or of course who I can or can't be intimate with.

But the protection and expansion of individual liberties depends upon group action, not individual action. This is all too obvious in the current war on terrorism. We protect our freedoms by actually strengthening our group identifications and associations of family, community, society, nation, civilization, and fighting and vanquishing the enemy as a group. United We Stand. In a truly Libertarianism framework, Osama Bin Laden and Al Queda would come here and kill us all while we're endlessly bickering about the right of a government to exist and to pass laws to raise revenue and to organize armies necessary to wage the war in the first place!
