Arab Press Slams Washington's Mideast Stance

Jordanian newspapers also warned that U.S. remarks comparing the Palestinian resistance Intifada to terrorism and Washington's expansion of its list of alleged terror groups will fuel more violence in the Middle East.

RIYADH, Kingdom of Saudi Arabis
Saudi newspapers lashed out Sunday at the United States Middle East policy, following the addition of Palestinian groups to the State Departments list of terrorists organizations and by a Bush administration official describing the current Palestinian intifada as terrorism.

"The most dangerous aspect of this ... is that Israel would consider it as a green light to continue its bloody policy against the Palestinian people," Al-Jazirah newspaper said in an editorial.

"What is unfair here is that absolving the occupier and describing national fighters as terrorists reminds us that colonialist powers had always characterized national liberation movements as terrorists," added the paper, which reflects official Saudi thinking like the rest of kingdom's media, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

The United States on Friday added 22 more groups to its list of alleged terrorist organizations and individuals. The list includes several Palestinian groups active in the Intifada against the Israeli occupation, including Lebanon's Hizbollah.
