I agree.
I was wondering if "home grown" means the anthrax itself, the perpetrators involved, the mailing source, all three, or any two of the three...
If the funding OR the aim is FROM or DIRECTED FROM a Middle Eastern concern, I anchor it to al Qaida and ultimately bin Laden. there is no need to crawl through the spaghetti plate to see if the perp(s) had direct contact with the al Qaida or were merely following a hunch from their own readings of al Qaida literature (whatever that might be). If this is Islamic extremist supported, whether it's in the knut's head or from direct orders is trivial banter, and that's good enough for me.
If the anthrax is or is not domestic, but the perps are, with no apparent following of the al Qaida, I'll call it "home grown". As for the mailing source, of course it will be from in-country. This precludes the CIA/FBI showing up on distant doorsteps.
When all is said and done, I believe that none of the anthrax letters/packages will have been mailed from an Arabic nation, unless it was done so as a last-ditch effort. That, or they will have been mailed from a nation that supports this attack on terrorism.
Whatever the outcome, a “home grown” variety at this particular time, with packages mailing out mere days before the attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, would be one hell of a fluke -- but then Tom might be one who appreciates the long-shot...?
