Let's face the facts

Bush's high poll ratings will not stand the test of time. If the war is won quickly but the economy continues to suck, his poll ratings will go down just as his dad's did. If the economy booms but the war drags on and on with no end in sight a la Vietnam it will badly hurt him. If both the war and the economy have favorable short-to-medium term outcomes for Bush he will still not hold 85% approval ratings for long because eventually other policy issues will return to the spotlight. If both the war and the economy turn into disasters, well, it will make his dad's rapid drop in the polls look mild by comparision.

Bush has done a good job in my opinion with the war on terrorism. It's way to early to say we are "behind schedule" or most of the other stupid remarks Cohen makes. The 2002 elections however are still a year away. A lot can happen in that time.

I consider myself an American first and a Democrat second. I'll support the president as long as I feel our cause is just. That doesn't mean I won't vote democratic in 2002. Most Democratic leaders support the war effort. Besides, the war isn't the only issue and just because I don't agree with Cohen doesn't mean I do agree with the like of Jesse Helms or Tom Delay.
