On the possible terrorist hypothethis, it could be an attack on the UN meeting.
On the non-terroist hypothethis, supposedly an engine was seen to fall off by eyewitnesses.
These planes, particularly the A300 are top quality so mechanical problems are unlikely unless there was very poor maintenance. American has a good track record there as well.
