A300 Tail Checks Ordered; Flight 587 Probe Focuses On Turbulence Aftermath

Still no signs of foul play despite what the conspiracy kooks are claiming. Accident investigators are trying to determine whether aerodynamic forces alone were strong enough to cause the tail to fail and whether the problem was with that single airplane or could affect the fleet.

In the meantime, all Airbus A300-600 operators in the US and France have been ordered to inspect their tail sections for possible damage. The inspection isn't mandatory for operators in other countries, but as a rule they also comply in cases like this. The operators are to report all findings, both positive and negative, to the American and French aviation authorities. Potentially, this could affect a lot more planes including different models that use composites or have implemented repairs to damaged composite structures.
