Three big factors in Taliban defeats
1. The Taliban do not enjoy widespread popular support among the people of Afghanistan. Case in point: the enormous throng queuing up at the reopening of Kabul's movie theatre.
2. 40 Upgraded Russian T-55 tanks supplied to the United Front (NA), along with a hundred or so BMP's and BTR's. Jane's article
3. B-52's. The venerable USAF bombers gutted Taliban front lines defending Mazar e Sharif, the lynchpin of the entire northern front and the gateway to Kabul.
