Re: How is this much different from noise bylaws?

Hi Larry,

I think this one was thought up by someone who lives in an apartment or other close quarters.

I am reminded of hotels where you come in and remind the porter one asked for a non-smoking room....and they reply - "This is a non-smoking room." Yet the insulation is so poor that the room reeks of smoke anyway from either adjoining rooms or floors.

I agree that this law needs to be amended. It seems like a 'get your neighbor!' law and surely will invite harassment.

Having lived in CA and AZ and seeing the difference in smoking laws (CA it is illegal almost everywhere, including all restaurants, bars, and public buildings - except your home) has been an eye-opener.

In AZ one stops by the local Jack in the Box and smoke greets you as you open the door. It created flashbacks of CA in the seventies and eighties.

While I dislike smoke, I dislike intrusive big brother mentalities even more.

I refuse to live in a community with a homeowners association. I know someone who sat as a member few of those meetings, until he resigned in disgust, where policy is made and enforced and the neighbors 'beg' for permission to change their house numbers from black to brass and little old ladies are sued because they put bars over their windows to protect themselves from theft 'property value reducing eyesores'.

You compare these folks to Nazis - but it's worse - because the Nazi state never occurred in a land where we are guaranteed the freedoms of the Constitution.

In Irvine, CA you can't have your garage open for more than an hour at a time. (We all know what goes on in garages! Work!!!! Aiiieeee!)

Individuality is squashed by a bunch of conformists who are bent upon feeling superior and empowered only by thwarting both their well to do neighbors who have money to make improvements and their poorer neighbors who still drive a car manufactured in the eighties, or care to change the oil themselves.

In most of AZ its like going back in time - when you can drive what you want to drive and not be ostracized, decorate your house as you see fit, and live free of the 'conformity police' - who more than anyone else they persecute need to 'get a life!'

Freedom is where its at.

Take care Larry,
