Yes it is easy to see that Johnny reacted to his permissive upbringing by seeking ultimate disipline.
I believe, this would be apparent to many liberals as well. I have conversed with MA enough to know that she is not a overly permissive parent. I would suspect that Buck would fall into that category also.
