White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said it was too early to discuss whether the government would consider any sort of plea arrangement with Walker. "Nobody has even brought any charges," Fleischer said.

WASHINGTON -- Bloomberg.com
The Bush administration has not ruled out charging John Walker Lindh, an American caught fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan, with treason.

The government is still weighing the possibilities, Justice Department and White House officials said following news reports that authorities have decided Walker should face a lesser charge than treason.

"The president hasn't ruled anything in or out because no determinations have been made," said White House spokesman Ari Fleischer. "He'll continue to hear from his advisers."

The Justice Department has informed the White House of several options for charges against Walker. President George W. Bush is not expected to make a decision until next week at the earliest, said Fleischer.
