A day after Afghanistan's foreign minister said that the U.S. must continue air strikes until its objectives are met, local tribesmen charged that new bombing raids by the U.S. have claimed over 100 civilian lives.

That's according to residents of an Eastern Afghan village, who told Reuters that they would like U.S. forces to come to their town and see the damage and casualties for themselves.

The air strikes early Sunday killed 107 people in the town of Qalaye Niazi, according to a villager quoted by Reuters.

Afghanistan's foreign minister, Dr. Abdullah, who uses only one name, said Sunday that U.S. air strikes are needed "as long as terrorist cells are in Afghanistan."

That statement came despite repeated calls by some tribal leaders in the past week for the U.S. to wind up its bombing campaign within days and thereafter bomb targets only with prior permission from the Afghan government.
