It seems obvious he wanted to commit suicide but first, he wanted to achieve his lifelong dream: to fly. And then, there's the influence from what happened on 9/11/01.
How can someone who wants to commit suicide be a "wannabe"? It escapes me! Does it mean the belief in afterlife is so strong ? There is nothing , just the big blackout..no point in "wannabeing"...
