You might remember the "oil pipeline conspiracy" popping up on this board (one example) and others, along with a number of rebuttals, including this one.

Now CNN, including Paula "The Zipper" Zahn, which ought to know better, is picking up on this and giving its proponents air time. Why? A cynic might say that since Daschle apparently shot both of his feet off with his tax cut speech, that the left is casting around for something...ANYTHING...to throw at Bush.

The transcript is interesting. Note the New York Times jumping on this story like a starving dog on a bone.

John O'Neill, who apparently is the source for the information in this French book, retired from the FBI and died during rescue efforts at the WTC. And can't we all just see where THIS is going with our little friends in the Conspiracy Movement.

Unfortunately, I have not yet tracked the actual book down--it's not actually mentioned in the transcript--although the Agence France-Presse has been a source for this story in the past.

Look for more of this kind of thing in the next few months as attempts to cut Bush off at the knees get more and more ludicrous. Private investigators are probably spreading out even now. Maybe the DUI will "surface" again, maybe something else.
