Government Peace Commissioner Camilo Gomez said he would depart for Bogota immediately to brief President Andres Pastrana.
BOGOTA -- AFP
The Colombian government on Wednesday halted peace talks with the country's largest rebel group, putting three years of bumpy talks aimed at ending the country's nearly four decade-old civil war on hold.
Colombia's armed forces were immediately placed on maximum alert across the country to prevent possible rebel attacks.
