I would think El Qaeda fugitives might be tempted to increase the level of threat.
I'm no military expert, but I suspect there are El Qaeda and Taliban fugitives
in the Kandahar area who might find the American-held airstrip a tempting target.
First, they'll use infiltrators with AK assault rifles.
Later, they'll resort to RPG-7's.
Later still, they may try mortars
or portable barrage rockets.
Finally, God forbid, they may try using Stingers against C-17's during takeoff or landing approach.
