How long will the ignorance be acceptable? More important, how long until we choose to be ignorant again?
It is said, "A picture is worth a thousand words." That is an understatement. Sometimes, it is also worth an angry letter containing a threat.
A letter writer to this newspaper threatened to cancel a subscription to the Orlando Sentinel over a front-page photo and article concerning starvation in Afghanistan. The writer believed the article was more about selling newspapers than reporting news.
I also read the article and I felt more informed about what is happening in that country. I don't know of any other way to cover a country torn by war, famine and an oppressive regime, which also happens to be the venue of a massive U.S. military action. There is no cosmetically appealing way to report on the plight of Afghans suffering from the results of the Taliban.
