Unfortunately, the stereotype for POW's comes from Hollywood.

I would dare say the average person
if he or she ever thinks about treatment of POW's according to the "Geneva Convention", they have a certain image in mind.
That being?...The WWII POW's
held in Stalag Luft[#] POW camps in Nazi Germany [Hogan's Heroes anyone?], with the stereotypical
arrogant monocled camp "commadant", the
Red Cross packages, wooden barracks & barbed-wire & guard towers, orders to shoot fleeing POW's, the POW agenda
to escape....Pure Hollywood pigeon droppings.

If the El Qaeda prisoners feel impelled to kill their captors, even in
incarcaration, there then there should be alternatives available to the campguards other then simply resorting to "lethal force" [allowed by the Geneva Convention] should violent and dangerous confrontations take place in those prison camps.

I have to confess that the "Geneva
Convention" does touch upon irregular
combatants in warzones, but does so in
a way that I see as ambigious.
Thus, the questions.
