Is there a difference between the American Red Cross, that raised so much money for the victims of the terror attacks, and this Red Cross?

When the "Give to the Red Cross" frenzy was going on after 9/11, my father-in-law told me he would never give to the Red Cross, because of the skimming off the top they did during WWII. My grandmother won't give to the ACR because when her baby was sick and needed blood, relatives stepped up and donated the blood, because they couldn't afford the cost. The Red Cross sent them a bill for the blood donated by relatives.

I don't like bashing charitable organisations, but the Red Cross isn't the virgin most think it is.
