We're having a few problems keeping American culture and values in place in the face of massive immigration (largely illegal) in this country as well.
It used to be that immigrants coming to this country accepted and embraced the principles and values this country was based on, while keeping the valuable portions of their own cultures. Now immigrants expect the United States to adopt every facet of the culture they came from, not least of which is their language, and to heck with American culture. It is largely illegal immigrants that feel this way. The legal ones, willing to work and wait for their spot in America, have a better idea of what the process means.
Patrick Buchanan wrote a book called "The Death of the West", which, among other things, describes this process with recent immigrants.
I have not read this book yet, but plan to. I have many differences with Buchanan--for one thing I don't think his concept of "Fortress America" is either practical or desirable--but he makes many good points as well.
At the very least, we need to crack down on illegal immigration, outdated visas, and other lawbreaking. Not just for cultural reasons, but for safety. This will be difficult, as a certain political party which shall remain nameless sees them as a cornucopia of votes, but we should try.
