Hi SPlinx,
Thanks for the link. I think Bush through down the gauntlent and his speech was designed to prepare the US for the eventual overthrow of the Iraqi leadership and of anti-terrorist activities in other nations.
What has gotten very little play and which few people think possible is that some nations have invited US forces to come in and deal with terrorist groups, camps, etc.
Bush mentioned the Phillipines - yet this is just for starters. I would 'guess' we have troops throughout Northern Africa by the thousands - engaging the enemy even as I type this post. The enemy being 'terror camps' and cells linked to Al qaeda.
Think how much information can be extracted from terrorists computers? Think how many leads can be followed just by tracing e-mail files?
The Axis of evil was likely composed by one of the think-tanks as the best way to 'sell' the campaigns going-on and ahead. Everyone condemned Bush for not having eliminated Saddam in 1991 - although few know this would have cost tens of thousands more Iraqi lives and those of hundreds of US soldiers.
Now, when we go into Iraq - we are going after the head - not the body.
A mongoose bites a cobra in the back of the neck - not the tail.
Unfortunately the French have been selling materials to Iraq for decades - and France has the most developed nuclear industrial capacity (think PLUTONIUM) in the world. With access to nuclear technologies and without anyone looking over the shoulder, Saddam has engaged in a full court press to develop nuclear weapons.
Time is of the essence. Like one of those B Bruce Willis movies where he survives just barely when the bombs go off - the US is literally racing to an atomic finish line with Iraq.
Bush knows this and will act. He will not hesitate to preserve the security of the US, the middle east.
Israeli intelligence is going crazy. They fear that Arafat's reluctance to curb terrorists - even after nearly killing him - is a sign that he feels confident Saddam will very soon have the bomb and be able to blackmail Israel into creating a Palestinian state.
Its all a tangled web. A nightmarish one created by human insecurity, hatred and a lack of infinite understanding.
But on this world, we must realize that humanity is not equal - but exists on vastly disparate levels of intellectual capacity. Humanity is only equal in the potential for growth or learning which is built-in to humanity.
When predators are at your front door - you can either run like heck - or confront them and if you can call the police prior to them reaching your door - all the better.
Iraq's potential break up is of little concern to the US other than how the break up would threaten other middle-eastern nations. I personally do not think it will break up. As these other regions do not have any developed infrastructure which could stand independent of Bagdad.
Just some of my thoughts on the matter...
