I read this as cautionary, much like the various concerns about CW tanks following TWA Flight 800's explosion, because, in both cases, the NTSB and FAA have no real explanation for what brought down the planes.

I have trouble believing that any actions the pilots might have taken (at that speed) could have torn the engines from Flight 587.
