Precht's preachings are utter nonsense, or just extremely niave.

The Iranian hostage crisis led to the Iran-Iraq war, and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the Gulf War, and it could all have been avoided by basic diplomatic skills?? That's laughable.

All nations practice espionage to one degree or another in pursuit of their national interest, some are better at it than others, but all civilized nations have agreed that embassies and accredited diplomatic personal are "off-limits" to the host country.

I strongly suspect that the Iranian government's motives in rejecting the UK ambassador have absolutely nothing to do with the man's qualifications or personal history; they have merely seized upon a pretty pathetic excuse to blame Jews for something bad, perhaps trying to deflect public attention from their own miserable, corrupt, failed, hard-line Islamic dictatorship.
