Re: Too much security?

<Do you realize that in Salt Lake City, we have approximately one soldier or security guard for every 17 athletes? No wonder the hotel rooms in Salt Lake City are going unsold. Tickets are available for most events, too. But then again, fans have been told to expect such long security lines that they should not anticipate viewing more than two events a day

I wonder where he got this bit of information. I have a friend who lives in Provo, an hour's drive on a good day from SLC. He works for a hotel, and tells me that they, and everyone else has been booked for months.

Too much security? Yes I agree there is such a thing. I was also a bit put off by Prez Bush's State of the Union comment that "You can't pay too much for Defense" or something to that effect. You can pay too much, if it is ineffective. waving a blank check around is no way too get a quality product. Being skeptical and scrutinous is. I'm not saying he should be looking for bargains, just looking for white elephants or worse Pork (the other white meat).

PS, I don't think they went overboard on security at the Olympic games. I do think that they did at the Groundhog's day event somebody posted a bit ago. Its all a matter of scale.
