Agendas and intentions sometimes confused

Those that seek to abridge any speech are really trying to control the thoughts that go into that speech. Sorta like water flowing through a spigot, ideas being the water and the spigot being the speech. Turn off the spigot and it will appear the idea has gone away. In reality the idea will still be there, only obstructed untill some one comes along and turns it on again.

With all the slanders of liberalism on these boards, you must realize it is the basic liberal tennent to require that spigot be open and that even the unpleasant ideas be allowed to flow out. Voltaire stated best when he said, "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Shutting out ideas with even the so-called "best of intentions" is not only controlling, but counter-productive. PC and hate language is certainly bad taste, but bad taste shows itself, we just must be vigilant enough to insure we are educated to recognize the bad taste and the agenda it serves and treat it for what it is.
