Boy, that's a bit farther to the Left than I'd want to go, and for on board I'm already considered a nut for people-loving, Earth-hugging, and believing in food, medical care, and shelter for all in the context of free enterprise.
And there are certainly elements which are true. The first tip-off for me was immediately after the bankruptcy filing GW at a press conference said that Lay had supported his opponent in the gubernatorial election, and that he, GW, had kept him on one Texas commission in the interest of continuity.
Well, Lay did support Richards, with 25% of the money given to gubernatorial candidates that year - 75% went to GW. And Bush had a much, much deeper relationship than just continuing Lay on a commission.
Why such a distancing, why so soon? It'll be interesting. The response of the Right, we didn't do it, everyone else did it, too, and it's not a crime anyway, is the same as the response of the Left in the same circumstances, so what the heck.
Conspiracy - LBJ did in RFK. How - simple - by lessening the guard. IF he did it, LBJ was smart enough to know the way would be to limit the Secret Service resources for candidates and just wait. The same would hold for anything else.
Now, if the information in the papers Cheney is trying to hide hint at plotting a war in Afghanistan prior to Sept. 11, that would be interesting. There's some reason he's hiding those - it won't fly on the principle. They aren't after the candid statements of the participants, and the Vice President isn't protected by the laws which say "President".
Fun times, if you aren't being bombed or starved.
