The question is, can Iran be 'salvaged'?
Bush was absolutely correct in his characterization of the repressive theocratic government of Iran as part of an Axis of Evil. Yet it's a good bet that Iran's inclusion on the Evil short list was motivated by a branch of the American anti-terrorism strategy which is fundamentally different from that guiding our policy towards Iraq. It's abundantly clear that Saddam's Iraq is beyond all hope of reform, yet Iran still may have a chance to choose a wiser path, and perhaps the right combination of carrot and stick may scare/incent them away from continued sponsorship of international terrorism. Or is this just wishful thinking?
