I had this Idea for a small co. I worked for (I was the only employee). I found out similar plans already existed and are called Medical Savings Plans.
Ins. covers catastrophic medical care. The highest deductible allowed by law at the time was $2500.
Basically your employer places the deductible in a savings account for you.
The average monthly premium for an employee and his family was about $350/mo. With the MSP the premium was cut to $100/mo.
For the employer, that’s 12mo.s x $350/mo. = $4200/yr/emp. All going to the ins. Co.
With the MSP, that’s 12mo.s x $100/mo. = $1200 + $2500 deductible paid by employer. A cost of $3700/yr?
No. A large % of employees will not use the entire (or even any) of their allotted deductible. Many with children will.
The employer could even come up with a health bonus. Let the employee be entitled to a percentage of the remaining deductible at the end of the year.

Rob
