One of the realities which come with maturity is the realization the folks in circumstances other than mine will have agendas different from mine.

Their agenda are as legitimate to them as mine are to me.

They have their best self-interests at heart, and not necessarily my best self-interests. I have my best self-interests at heart and not necessarily theirs.

To form an effective coalition everyone's interests must be met.

If the above is true, then how reasonable is it to expect any Afghani to lose his life, leave his children fatherless and without resources, because of some love for the US?

I don't think very.
