< Then, the program ran into a roadblock: a fierce lobbying campaign by colleges and universities that considered foreign students a major revenue source.
It seems their stonewalling may have contributed to Sept 11. I don’t think their major revenue source can cover the tab.
"We, like most Americans, are very uncomfortable with any form of profiling," Terry Hartle, vice president of the American Council on Education, said in an interview this week. "We are not law enforcement officers."
Assumption and denial:
“We, like most Americans ...” = assumption
“We are not law enforcement officers.” = denial
Perhaps colleges and universities should just leave national security issues to the professionals -- and hold more bake sales to improve their drooping revenue.
And which INS blunders are being investigated? As far as I can tell, there were no “blunders” -- but then if this were true, Grimaldi and the Washington Post would have to run a far shorter news piece, seeing as it all degrades to the INS being the issue, not terrorists with a plan.
