This is particularly depressing since in the world of modern politics, the truth of a fact is far less important than who said it. A great technology like pebble-bed reactors will be scorned now because everyone will assume it is being recommended just because of the usual government shenanigans.
Look at Waxman's comment. Odds are he couldn't tell you the chemical formula for water under severe torture, but he has written off parts of the energy plan not because of their merits, but because he disapproves of the source of the ideas.
