There are two parts to imperialistic ambitions. First, the real agenda, the one which has the economic power to drive it. That's usually background.

Then there is the overt agenda, that which will supply the political will to carry out a policy of imperialism.

The real agenda is economic. Under the guise of "free enterprise", a one way "free trade" policy, the countries upon which order is imposed will become economic colonies. The multi-national conglomerates realize one does not have to completely take over a small country in order to loot it.

In the US the economic powers can purchase the political power, and has. The political regime needs popular support, and that agenda is security. Get the public interested in "security" and they will support the activities which lead to achieving the economic aims.

Simple. Happening right before our unseeing eyes.
