The Fuel Cell Store just came out with a radio controlled car that is powered by a PEM fuel cell and has metal hydride hydrogen storage. This little hotrod can run continuously for 2.5 hours. With conventional R/C cars you get perhaps 10-15 minutes of run-time before either recharging the batteries or filling up the gas tank. The catch? The Fuel Cell R/C Car costs $8800 US, whereas an ordinary R/C car will cost $350 - $1000. The high cost is not really all that obscene for the R/C hobbiest, who will regularly scan model catalogues to scope out the latest $2000 R/C helicopter, or a Byron Originals $10,000 twin-engine ducted-fan-powered F-15 Eagle, or $5000 P-51 Mustang with a 10-foot wingspan. One might even occasionally run across an advertisement for a genuine miniature turbofan engine for $5000 listed on a Swedish website....
Getting the R/C bug again. :-)
Neat little toy from fuelcellstore.com
