We both have a vested interest in education. Unfortunately, recent political events (especially since 1995) is what prompted me to express my concerns about being demogagued and demonized on the issue.

I don't know of too many people who're calling for an end to Head Start. I think most reasonable people want to see the program improved. If the studies are indicating that the benefits of Head Start fade by the 3rd grade, then we need to know why so perhaps we can develop more effective strategies. It's also possible that the problem isn't with Head Start but with elementary education, especially in those troubled inner cities.
