Two Wongs can make it White!

To quote Bugs Bunny,

"What's all the hubbub bub?"

PC Paranoia

I don't know if this qualifies as racism or simply a funny name word play which is perhaps in slightly poor taste. I know that twenty-five years ago it likely wouldn't have even engendered more than a slightly raised eyebrow. Shirts like this and far, far worse were available almost everywhere t-shirts were sold, all through the seventies and early eighties.

Of course, the changing demographics of California are not exactly conducive to such "Wong" jokes. The "Long Duck Dong" character in John Hughes' "Sixteen Candles" from 1984(5?) was much more offensive than this. I suggest asian-americans go to the local blockbuster videos and burn all the tens of thousands of roaming copies and boycott all past and future John Hughes films.

Basically, we have become a nation with a large vocal uptight group, urged on by socialist, marxist, communist flag-burning teachers where freedom of speech (especially by a famous capitalistic company) is greatly put in peril by political correctness.

Market economics should be allowed to dictate such shirts. If someone wants to buy it - no one should be allowed to keep people from selling it. Ironically more of these shirts will likely be sold than ever would have been.

Market economics shows that not only is it funny to some - it is now a rare collectible worth $250 a shirt - and will no doubt be worn with even more often and with more pride by the well-heeled buyers or anti-pc college types.

The latter will just will have to make sure they don't wear it at UCI.
