Did anyone hear the NPR story Friday...

...about the changes McDonalds made to the way they keep chickens for egg production? It seems that the old way of doing it included clipping their beaks off and crowding so many of them per cage that they were unable to turn around.

Pardon my bleeding heart, but I think this is a good change, and I'm perfectly willing to pay a penny more for my Egg McMuffin to support it. And it is directly attributable to the detested PETA and marchers like those in Tom's picture.

The bad side of it is that McDonalds was targeted specifically while their competitors are still doing business the old way (which at present, seems more efficient and cheaper).

If there is another way to get changes like this made, I would like to hear about it.

Or if you want to respond with the business-should-do-any-damned-thing-it-wants story, then by all means: rant away.
