A cost-benefit analysis...

This line appeared the the National Post article:

"That is the price Canada pays for sharing the North American continent with the United States..."

The price, it's suggested, is that Canada flies to the aid of her imperilled friends but is ignored after the shouting dies down.

IMHO, Canadians need to take a good hard look at the BENEFITS of sharing North America with the US, a respectful, generous and peaceful nation.

Had Canada, by some quirk of geography and history, been a neighbor of Russia instead of the US, does anyone expect that it'd be the same first-world nation it is today?

But in reality, history has been good to Canada, allowing it to graduate from British traditions...and geography has been equally kind--or perhaps more so--by putting it next to the world-champion defender of freedom and prosperity.
