“physically coercive interrogation methods”
I believe the more words you use to describe what is happening, without actually touching on the criminal term is ludicrous as hell!
* unauthorized access to a dwelling occupied/owned by person other than self = breaking and entering
* use of physical force to win an argument = assault
Physically coercing the fellows arm, the interrogator repeated asked, “Did you do it? Did you do it? Did you do it?”
Sorry, but:
* physically coercive interrogation methods = torture
In the terms used by the media, doubtless picked from the actual ruling and across years of legal banter, the ruling was a good choice. However, I can think of far more torturous methods than “violently shaking the suspects' upper torsos, forcing them to crouch like frogs and shackling them in contorted positions with sacks over their heads.”
“Our apprehension is that this decision will hamper the ability to properly deal with terrorists and terrorism, which disturbs us. We are, however, judges. Our brethren require us to act according to the law.”
Amen.
And the loophole the interrogators use today...?
“Violent shaking and other techniques do not constitute torture, they say. Rather they are emergency methods used on suspects who may know of a "ticking bomb."
Critics, however, argue that the emergency methods were used routinely, and routine use is what the court outlawed Monday. The judges still left the door open for agents to use such methods when a bomb is really ticking, by suggesting that they could invoke the emergency conditions as a defense if criminal charges were brought against them.”
“... the "liberal" American Jewish community has been morally bankrupt about such issues for so long now that to speak up at this point would be to condemn themselves for permitting, and even encouraging in many cases, such Nazi-like behavior by the Israelis for decades.”
Sorry, but “Nazi-like” was just plain funny. The writer has no idea what a Nazi was, or is.
And another one:
“The UNConvention Against Torture, of which Israel is a signatory, states that the use of any physical or psychological pressure which causes pain or humiliation is absolutely prohibited at all times.”
Don’t let citizens of the U.S. know that their militaries refer to this as “tactics.”
Anyway, while it may be considered a bitch to go through, these should be regarded as mild forms of torture (yes, I actually did use the “T” word). Some may result in permanent physical/mental injury, but none would be considered life threatening. Yes, I read where one (1) person was killed while being shaken, but one death out of the claimed hundreds of inconvenienced terror suspects is not life threatening. Terror activities are life threatening.
A nice read. Thank you, Ed.
Cheers, all,
Dan
