BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan
Three or four rockets or mortars exploded several hundred metres from an airfield in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday where US troops and Apache helicopters are based, a US army spokesman said.
Spokesman Major Bryan Hilferty told Reuters the rocket or mortar fire occurred in the eastern city of Khost, about 225 km south of the Afghan capital and 50 km from a mountainous region where British Royal Marines are conducting a large sweep.
