Sigh...another election year, and the spigot is open.

<Federal Spending shoots up 11 percent.

And the Republicans are throwing the cash out to voters almost as fast as the Democrats. "Almost," which is why I vote Republican.

A more pessimistic person might think that a system largely based on people being able to legally vote money out of each others' pockets is basically a positive feedback control system, and will eventually blow up in our faces. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Here's hoping for a lot of use of the veto pen, but given Bush's tendency to Bend Like The Willow on these kind of things, I ain't holding my breath.

And if the Democrats don't shut up about tax cuts...

Any across-the-board tax cut must, by mathematical necessity, give more relief to the wealthy since they pay a vast majority of the taxes. The Democrats don't give a rat's ass about the poor. They just want more money to stay in their coffers where they can buy votes with it. Why do you think Democrats target tax cuts to people who hardly pay any taxes at all? They can claim to be "tax cutters" while doing very little to keep money in the private sector, where it can actually do some good to the economy.

The simple formula:

A 10 percent tax cut for someone who pays $1 million in taxes: $100,000 kept in the private sector and out of Ted Kennedy's sweaty red hands.

A 10 percent tax cut for someone who pays $500 in taxes: Teddy loses out on grabbing only fifty bucks. No contest.
