<This interview, broadcast today, gives a little more detail on Pim Fortyun's political career. His party, only a few months old, was expected to win as much as 20% of the vote in the Netherlands. (It may still, if elections are allowed after the assassination.) The reporter suggested that he was not a typical right-wing politician at all, but one of the flag-bearers in Europe's on-going culture war with its increasing Muslim immigrant population. He represented traditionally left-of-center social values but used traditional far-right positions to advance his agenda.
