The report by Newsweek is the latest of several indicating bin Laden and top lieutenant Ayman al-Zawahri are hiding in Pakistan's tribal areas near the Afghan border.
WASHINGTON -- AFP
Commanders in eastern Afghanistan said they have received credible reports that Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and one of his top lieutenants are hiding in Pakistan, Newsweek magazine reported.
The news weekly, in the edition due to go on sale on Monday, quotes Hazrat Uddin, military intelligence chief in the eastern city of Khost, as saying a source told him bin Laden has trimmed his beard and appears healthy.
Another Afghan commander in Khost, Kamal Khan Zadran, told the weekly he thinks bin Laden's men are trying to keep their leader safe inside Pakistan.
