Bush signs massive farm bill

Legislation funneling immense quantities of taxpayer money to farmers was signed by Bush today, without even the token protest he gave campaign finance reform. An increase in spending of nearly 80 percent.

Now we move on to prescription drug coverage, the estimated cost a year or so ago of which was originally about $160 billion, but which has recently increased to about $360 billion, and climbing. Essentially a cash pipeline between drug companies and the taxpayer (what market incentive will there be to reduce drug prices?), the ever-popular elderly are being dragged out for display by politicians to justify yet another permanent and ever-growing "entitlement."

Another small, irrevocable step to government health care.

As Rush said this morning, the Reagan Revolution is officially over, and the doors to the Treasury are wide open. Republicans have decided to accept the Democratic definition of "compassion": Federal spending. More government spending: more compassion. Less Federal spending: less compassion, the result of mean-spirited selfish bastards who want every unfortunate person in America to die a horrible, maggot-infested death.

Desperate to win the coming elections, Republicans are throwing most of their principles of limited government (which can cause discomfort to those who think everything ought to be free) down the toilet.

Cripes.
