<New York Times.
My instinct is that there is more to this than meets the eye. Arafat does not strike me as a man who would fear heckling, although judging from his behavior in some interviews, I could be wrong.
I think he had information that something nastier was waiting for him. I'm curious: although the common wisdom is that terrorists hiding among civilians in camps are doing so with the knowledge of the civilians, I wonder if this is actually true. What if the bomb factories and terrorist cells in places like Jenin were not known to most of the residents, hidden even from close Palestinian neighbors?
What would the residents of the wrecked parts of Jenin think of someone who had stuck this kind of military target in their midst?
Just a theory. I'm open for corrections on this.
