<I think I'd rather fly it myself.
Speak for yourself. If my kid was flying it, I would heartily approve of the idea of him sitting in a soft chair in Florida and pushing some buttons. The world has got too many hot dogs in it already.
And, Tom, killing 'em ain't that hard. People die easily.
True. But this is a precision weapon. That's the whole point. If we were just interested in killing people we would just nuke them from a submarine somewhere in the Indian Ocean.
You have to find 'em. It seems to me that's the problem, not killing 'em.
Very true. The reconnaissance capabilities of similar vehicles are a major asset on our side, and the technology is improving every day.
Our president all but staked America's national reputation on "getting" OBL. He didn't have to stand up and say over and over we'd get him dead or alive, he didn't have to tell us OBL could run but not hide. But he did.
We are making a large assumption here, that bin Laden is alive. As yet, there has been no proof of this, and the lack of such proof is getting suspicious. The most recent video was apparently shot in October. How hard would it be to show him in a video or photo holding a current newspaper? Any digital manipulation would be easily detected by experts. Certainly he would have a strong motive for showing his followers he isn't dead.
On the other hand, if his followers knew he was dead, they would have a strong motive for pretending he was still alive, since Bush's "failure" to get bin Laden scores them major points. "Messages" might continue to come from him, but he wouldn't show up in person. Under these circumstances, we might never find the body, since the whole charade depends on it not being located. An unmarked grave deep in the mountains maybe.
This is looking more and more likely to me. I can't believe that bin Laden could be out and about somewhere without that information leaking out somewhere or him being detected.
