Re: I know . . .

I got a little hot.

That, and only that, is why we are there today

I doubt this very much. I think we are there because we have a serious hard-on for Iraq, and have put a lot of pressure on SA to let us stay. I don't believe that SA is concerned about Iraq much at this point. In fact, the longer we stay, the more SA seems to like Iraq.

Not really.

If we had not gotten in during Desert Shield, we would most assuredly not be there today. That we remain is because of that hard-on, and because of Saudi insecurities, not because of any graciousness from the host nation.

That Hussein remains in power is the only key factor in our remaining on Saudi soil. The people demonstrate loudly to have us gone, but the royal family grants them a deaf ear. They recall the attack on Kuwait very clearly, and know their only hope for survival against Iraq is through a strong U.S. presence.

So -- what have they done for me lately? Let's see:

* They've lowered my fuel bill -- and raised it again, more often than not.
* They've allowed us to fight their war for them.

For the future:

* They might allow us to put down their own terrorists for them.

What fun!

Let's see -- what else...?
Dan
