I think there are serious reasons to be concerned... I have been using AI the past few months to write massive data analysis programs... the webpage was simple by comparison, just ~8000 lines of code...

In this case we didn't steal a job from an aspiring web designer- we weren't going to pay someone to do it in the first place.... but the fact is AI is costing people their jobs. BUT its also letting people do their jobs better.

I had an Idea for an analysis of NASA data that would be useful for people making optical communications space terminals. Before AI - if I were at NASA, I would have written a proposal to do the work- I would have needed funding for 1 or 2 programmers - the programmers I got- if funded- would need to be taught what I was interested in studying... it would have been a major expense and hassle- EASILY $100K for the project.

But on my own, in a series of weekends I did it in my spare time using AI... creating a distilled dataset of ~100 billion measurements that can now be processed on my home computer to get useful numbers for a company building optical communications space terminals.

This technology is going to do a LOT of harm to a LOT of people- but it will do a lot of good as well...

I suppose the debate over 'should we build AI' is pointless- It WILL happen and it looks like it will happen with very few- if any- safeguards in place.... This has happened before with other technologies, but AI is fundamentally different- we are racing to create an entity that is orders of magnitude more intelligent than we are, and thinks at near light speed... I am not sure how this ends well... especially given the personalities of the sociopathic CEOs guiding all this....
