As for stinger attacks on planes it's very possible, but...

...these terror cells are not so numerous that they wish to jeopardize their network or key components of it for a single plane downing.

They want something really BIG like a nuclear attack or bio-chemical one.

The plane downing would be small-fry stuff. My bet is that they are slowly stockpiling weapons for usage against multiple planes or against "hard" targets.

If India-Pakistan go nuclear - it sets a horrible precedent - and at the same time makes it easier for the US and Russia to sweep in and turn the trouble-spots in the mid-east to green, marbled glass - or at least threaten to do so credibly enough that the Saudis, Iraqis and Iranians and fanatical Muslims everywhere think twice before Mecca is just a green glass lying in the desert.

The meteorite they have been worshipping for centuries like ignorant savages can be returned to its component atoms.

The radiation remnants alone from a multiple warhead detonation in Kashmir will already cause enough civilized people in these regions to leave and not return.

Ignorance is not a pretty picture and religious wars based on totally remnants of ignorant ancestors musings - is almost inescapably pathetic in the 21st century.

It's clear 2000 years from now this same ignorance can manifest in large portions of humanity. Human evolution is clearly stagnated in some regions. Education alone cannot excuse the vast numbers in this moderen day and age.
