What I think she fails to see in the European point of view is that our countries have been colonizing others and it was wrong; and I'm afraid we see the same thing in the occupied territories and Sharon, even before all the drama, never intended to give up occupied lands.
I've heard a fascinating report about the nuclear weapons in Israel. It's France, in the 50's, that helped Israel get the nuclear bomb, much to the US opposition but as it was kept a secret for a long time, it was impossible to prevent this. When De Gaulle came to power in 1958 and heard
about this, he was very upset and decided to stop this kind of cooperation.
A few years later, he was faced with Algeria crisis and put an end to it by letting it become independant. But he was faced with thousands of frenchmen having to return at once to France and also Algerians who were unwilling to stay in a Muslim pro communist country. Many resented, even today, the independance of what was considered French territory. But nevertheless, De Gaulle was France's most admired 20th century statesman. Can an Israeli statesman be inspired by him?
