The tax laws are way out of wack.

The point of taxation is to raise money for the government, not to punish some and reward others. I believe that there should be a flat tax rate regardless of income. A 10% income tax, whether you make $10,000 a year or $10,000,000 dollars a year. How anyone can say this is unfair or unbalanced is beyond me. The person making $10,000 a year would pay $1,000 in taxes, whereas the person making $10 million a year would pay in $1 million. This is 100X the total yearly income of the $10,000 person, so there 10% is equal.

This article shows just how screwed up our current tax system is. According to it, the top 400 individual income earners in the U.S. pay more in taxes the the bottom 40 million do. I know these top earners make alot, but this is ridiculous.

So if I somehow had the power to write the tax code, this is what it would be like. A 10% across the board income tax. That's it, nothing else. All other taxes would be scrapped, so would all of the loopholes. No more paying in or getting money back at the end of the year. 10% taken out every pay check with no forms or paper work to mess with, unless you were self employed. Very simple and efficient. There would be a provision to allow for an increase in the tax rate in case of national emergency, although this provision would have to be voted on once a year or it would automatically sunset. This would mean that the bureaucrats would have to learn to live within their means. Kinda like a junky quiting cold turkey.
